Debunking Myths About Dermal Fillers: The Truth Behind Jack Nathan MedSpa’s Popular Anti-Aging Treatment

Dermal fillers are one of the most popular treatments at Jack Nathan MedSpa as they are highly effective at reversing signs of aging and provide immediate results. With being so popular, many misconceptions and myths have been associated with the treatment. In this article, we will be debunking these myths and diving into the world of Dermal Fillers.

What are Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances that can be injected in various dermal planes to help restore lost volume, enhance facial contour, and soften fine lines and wrinkles. There are several types of dermal fillers, the most common one being hyaluronic acid.

Each filler has a specific texture, density and formulation which are selected for specific purposes. Your aesthetic practitioner will choose a specific filler depending on which area and which dermal plane it requires to be injected in.

Where can filler be injected?

Dermal fillers can be used to add volume to the cheek and lips, contour the chin and jaw, soften marionette lines and nasolabial folds, and correct loss of volume and dark circles under the eyes.

4 Dermal Filler Myths You Won’t Believe: The Truth Revealed at Jack Nathan MedSpa:

Myth #1: If I don’t like the results, I’m stuck with it.

Dermal fillers are NOT permanent. However, dermal fillers can be reversed should a patient want to undo it. Fillers can take a few weeks to settle, but if you still don’t like the results after this period, the filler can be dissolved.

The filler products we carry are primarily made of Hyaluronic acid that can be dissolved with a product called hyaluronidase. Once the hyaluronidase is injected, the treated area will return to its original state 24-48 hours later.

Myth #2: It’s painful to have done.

Providers want patients to feel completely confident and comfortable during their injections. Therefore, topical numbing cream will be applied before any filler treatment to minimize discomfort during the appointment. Some fillers are formulated with lidocaine, which can significantly decrease pain experienced during the injection.

Myth #3: Fillers require too much maintenance.

While you must maintain filler results because they aren’t permanent, how often you must do so isn’t as regular as some think. Most fillers last 6-24 months! Multiple factors determine how long fillers last; this includes which product is used, where it is placed, and how active you are.

Areas with a lot of movement, like the lips, dissolve quickly. An active lifestyle and fast metabolism can also contribute to your filler dissolving quicker.

Myth #4: Getting fillers will change my face.

Often, patients are worried that filler will change the overall look of their appearance. However, the inevitable reality is that your face is aging every day and, as a result, changing with every passing year. After 30, our collagen levels in the skin and body begin to drop by 1-2% each year.

That means that after 30, our faces rapidly begin to change. Dermal fillers are how we counteract this. They work to restore natural volume to prevent changes in the face, and that is the goal when using dermal filler for anti-aging.

What to Expect During Your Dermal Filler Appointment

  1. Before your injection appointment, you will be offered a consultation to discuss your aesthetic goals, what you like, and what you would like to improve.
  2. At your injection appointment, you will be talked through the procedure and your practitioner will take you through the consent process. This is your opportunity to ask any questions that you may have.
  3. Depending on the area being injected, the practitioner may apply a numbing cream to the area before injecting. Our fillers contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic that numbs the skin so once the filler is injected, you might stop feeling the procedure altogether.
  4. Any numbing cream applied will be removed, and the areas of the face being treated will then be cleaned and marked and your practitioner will put you in a comfortable position to have the treatment. The treatment time will vary depending on how many areas are being treated.
