How Many Units of Botox® to Treat the Forehead?
Neurotoxin treatment is the most popular and effective way to prevent and improve the look of wrinkles. Typically, at a young age, most individuals exhibit ‘dynamic wrinkles’ which are lines that are only visible when an individual makes a facial expression.
As one age, the repetition of these facial expressions causes them to become etched into the skin which is then referred to as ‘static wrinkles’. The purpose of preventative neurotoxin treatment is to prevent dynamic wrinkles from advancing to static wrinkles which can help one to feel more youthful and improve the overall physical appearance.
One of the most popular anatomical sites for neurotoxin injections is the forehead. In order to treat the forehead various muscles need to be targeted by the injector. These muscles include the frontalis muscle which creates the horizontal lines on the forehead and the procerus and corrugator muscles which are responsible for creating the vertical frown lines.
During your neurotoxin session, your injector will assess the muscles' strength and characteristics which determines the number of units you will need to have an effective treatment. Moreover, the patient’s aesthetic goal plays a role in determining the number of units.
For instance, some people like to be completely frozen whereas others would like to have some movement in their forehead. As such, most injectors offer a range of units per muscle group as a reference. The horizontal frown lines can require around 10-30 units, and the vertical frown lines can require 10-25 units depending on the muscle strength and aesthetic goals.
It is important to follow the post-care instructions given to you by your injector to optimize results and prevent any undesirable effects. In general, neurotoxins last around 3-4 months but this varies between individuals so ensure that you are maintaining your results by visiting your injector consistently.
